New essay at Grown and Flown

Like so many parents, when the recent college admissions scandal broke I felt shocked/not shocked. I mean, cheating on the SAT and ACT — that happens, right? But the creation of fake athletic profiles for non-athletes? That made my jaw drop. All three of my teenage children are trying to get recruited by college coaches right now, and the process entails years of HARD WORK. So I wrote about it.

My essay, For the Average Young Athlete, Sports Isn’t a Free Ride to College, was published by Grown and Flown, a great site for parents of teens and young adults. You can read it here if you’re interested.

Also, I’m still trying to figure out the whole author-on-social-media thing. My webmaster/childhood friend and I recently did a tune up on the site. If you’ve signed up to receive updates from me and our recalibrations worked, this blog post will show up in your in box. Warning: I’m also gearing up to start an occasional newsletter, but fear not — it will be VERY occasional, and ideally something you want to open! If you aren’t on my email list and would like to be (because who doesn’t need more email – ha) you can sign up on my contact page.
